We had a great time hanging out this past week with with Brendt and Zoe from the Bicycle Film Festival! It was good to have them in town. I watched the shorts program last night. The highlight for me was Balorda, a piece about this amazing fun ride that happens every year in Italy. “We don’t have energy bar, only pork! We don’t drink Gatorade, only wine!” I’m heading to Italy to ride Balorda! I mean, I’ve been on a fun ride or two in my day, but all through this movie I kept thinking, “DAMN they’re having fun!”. So we’re working to bring Balorda to FBB2009.
We wish we had a photo of the BFF and FBB hanging out togther. They’re doing amazing work to bring their festival around the worl. Brendt just finished six months of travel. I asked him how it went. He said he’s tired.

We’ve put together a half hour screening of favorite movies from the past six years of the festival. Lost footage from the early days. The unveiling of the 2009 trailer. On the street footage from the 2008 festival. More bike love than you can wrap your bar tape around.
Wieden + Kennedy is located at 224 NW 13th. The whole affair is from 7:01pm until midnight, and we will host screenings starting around 8pm. Solid timing details to come…. [ MORE INFO ]
Holy crikey bikes are everywhere this summer – and we’re not complaining! We’re seeing new riders left and right, car driving friends are all of a sudden on two wheels, wobbly riders, janky bikes and lots of smiles. It’s the summer of the bike; the bike is the official vehicle of summer 2008.
So Filmed by Bike is celebrating and partnering with The Night Ride to bring our program outside the theater walls. We’ll be hosting a bike-in theater in an open field in North Portland on July 12th and showing some of our favorites from the 2008 festival. Come join us for this killer nighttime tour of Portland.

The Filmed by Bike special mini-screening at The Night Ride was amazing! They took a field in North Portland, along a long, quiet off road bike path, and transformed it into a bike-in theater. A large blow-up theater screen allowed for great viewing for the crowds. Fire dancers greeted riders at the entrance and the fresh popcorn was flowing. There was a cool breeze rustling through the trees making for an extremely pleasant night for riding bikes.
Were you there? What did you think? So, should we do this exclusive screening again?
We used to say that Filmed by Bike happens “one night, and one night only”, but then it got pretty large and we started doing multiple screenings. Still, Filmed by Bike has remained a film fest that only comes out to play once a year. Until now. Continue reading
And it’s probably a lot more serious and talky, but on Saturday, Oct 28 the Bagdad Theater in Portland will feature an afternoon of transporation-oriented entertainment. A series of locally made short films will be shown along with live historical presentations highlighting how our community has created Portland’s world class transportation system that serves families, seniors, pedestrians, bicyclists and businesses. The program is two hours long and starts at 2:00 pm.
This free event will be MC’d by Commissioner Sam Adadms.
The films come by way of Clarence Eckerson of BikeTV, whose films have been screened are previous Filmed by Bike festivals. Samples of some of the films can be watched on the BikeTV website here and here.
