Filmed by Bike sets itself apart from other film festivals by specializing in honoring the very shortest of bike movies from around the world. We are dedicated to film shorts and we limit entries to only 8 minutes.
But we also pride ourselves on our undeniable rebellious streak and we aren’t afraid to break our own rules.
New this year we are showing one longer movie, Tokyo to Osaka (plays in Need for Speed: Shorts Program B). We also have a program that combines a selection of shorts with one full length feature, Field Guide to November Days. This movie was filmed entirely by bike, all cast, crew and equipment was transported without cars. It was produced by former Filmed by Bike juror Nick Peterson and Mary DeFreese, both Portland filmmakers.
Field Guide is an almost wordless study of social isolation, miscommunication and sexual identity. When the relationship of Natalie and Matt fails a second time, the couple begins to explore their identities independently; Natalie through socially radical action and Matt through his sexuality.
